Ultra Marathon FAQs

Can I have a drop bag?

Yes, depending on the ultramarathon distance, runners may be permitted one drop bag which is transported to a designated checkpoint, approximately halfway through the course, allowing you to restock supplies or change socks.

Are the ultramarathon routes marked?

The Yellow Belly ultramarathon routes typically follow established trails like the Viking Way and is supported by a GPX file provided to all runners. While we may add some course markings, navigation skills and a GPS device (watch or handheld) are highly recommended.

Are headphones allowed?

We generally allow bone-conducting or open-ear headphones that allow you to hear your surroundings. If you use standard headphones, you must remove them at road crossings and when approaching marshals or other trail users for safety.

Are Yellow Belly Ultramarathons suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. We pride ourselves on organising beginner-friendly ultramarathons. Whether you are tackling your first 50 miler or stepping up to a longer distance, we design our events with generous cut-off times to take the pressure off. The Yellow Belly spirit is all about community and support, you’ll never be just a number at our races.

What are the cut-off times for your ultras?

We typically design our ultra marathons with generous cut-off times in mind. The specific cut-off times for each event will be listed on the individual event details page.

Are pacers allowed?

No, pacers are not permitted on the course at any time. All runners must complete the distance under their own power and without dedicated external support runners. You are, however, welcome to have friends and family cheer you on.

Are all Yellow Belly ultramarathons in Lincolnshire?

Yes, our ultramarathons are mainly set within the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Often mistaken for being completely flat, Lincolnshire offers far more variety than expected, our courses wind through undulating hills, picturesque woodland and iconic historic routes such as the Viking Way. We are passionate about highlighting the very best of trail running in Lincolnshire, delivering ultramarathons that are rewarding for seasoned runners while still being welcoming and achievable for those new to the sport.
