Are all yellow belly events in Lincolnshire?
Our ultra marathons and trail races take place primarily in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). While many people think Lincolnshire is entirely flat, our routes often feature rolling hills, scenic woodlands, and historic trails like the Viking Way. We are proud to showcase the best trail running in Lincolnshire, offering terrain that challenges experienced runners while remaining accessible for newcomers.
Are your ultramarathons suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. We pride ourselves on organising beginner-friendly ultramarathons. Whether you are attempting your first 50 miler or stepping up to a longer distance, we design our events with generous cut-off times to remove the pressure. The "Yellow Belly" spirit is all about community and support, you will never be just a number at our races.
What support is provided at the aid stations?
You will find a mix of sweet and savoury options, including sandwiches, fruit, cakes, water, cola and of course, salted potatoes. We cater to various dietary requirements (please let us know before the event) to keep you fuelled across the Lincolnshire countryside. Many of our volunteer crews are experienced runners themselves and know exactly how to get you to the finish line.
Do I need navigation skills to run your events?
While we do provide some course markings, we always recommend that runners carry a backup method of navigation. For every event, we provide a downloadable GPX file and a detailed route map. While the trails in Lincolnshire are generally well-defined, having the route on your watch or phone ensures you stay on track, especially during our longer distance events. For some events we will also provide each runner with a printed route map.
Why is the company called Yellow Belly Ultras?
Yellowbelly is a traditional nickname for a person born in Lincolnshire. By naming our series Yellow Belly Ultras, we are celebrating our local heritage and the unique landscape of our home county. When you run with us, you aren't just running a race; you are experiencing the heart of Lincolnshire culture.
What mandatory kit do I need to carry?
Safety is our top priority. The mandatory kit list varies depending on the distance and the season (winter events require more thermal gear). Typically, you will need a mobile phone, a water vessel, a foil blanket, and a waterproof jacket. We keep our trail running kit lists practical and standard for UK events to make it easy for you to get to the start line safely. You will be provided with the mandatory kit list requirements before each event.
Are pacers allowed?
No, pacers are not permitted on the course at any time. All runners must complete the distance under their own power and without dedicated external support runners. You are, however, welcome to have friends and family cheer you on at designated spectator points.
Can I have a drop bag?
Yes, depending on the ultramarathon distance, runners may be permitted one drop bag which is transported to a designated checkpoint, approximately halfway through the course, allowing you to restock supplies or change socks.
I am no longer able to attend the event, what can I do?
Whilst we do not offer refunds. Please contact us and we will help you with deferring your race to another of equal value.
